FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO HOSPITAL: HOW CLINICAL EXPOSURE CEMENTED MY CAREER PATH IN MEDICINE

This brief account of a personal experience explores the significance of exposure to a healthcare setting in cementing a career choice in medical field. The author who is a high school O-level student, undertook a 10-day observership at Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center to substantiate this interest. The experience included endoscopy, radiology, gastroenterology, and dialysis; the author visited both in-patient facility and clinics. This yielded an elaborate imagery of patient care and the relevant technical aspects. This encounter further solidified the author’s determination to pursue medicine, emphasizing the pivotal role of practical exposure in validating career choices.
